Technique

Clerkenwell, London

RIDI Group provided a wide and varied range of products from their portfolio to the refurbishment of the old Laser House building in Goswell Road, London. Now renamed Technique, the original 1960 structure was retained and extended in a highly sustainable and creative way. Many of the old concrete features were retained and highlighted while the building was extended upwards with additional floors constructed from a sustainable glulam structure.

Working with architects BGY, RIDI Group provided a sustainable lighting solution to match the eco credentials of the building. The backbone of the lighting scheme is a 3-phase DALI track system supplied with a very minimal TINO spotlights throughout. This forms the basis of an adaptable Cat A scheme that can be adapted and added to without need for wastage should an incoming tenant need to alter the space.

Elsewhere, flexible commercial workspaces on the ground floor and basement areas stand out using the suspended RIDI VENICE linear line system in a subtle brick red finish. The connecting areas used Spectral’s S36 compact linear line system as a contrast.

Spectral STORA-Runds were used throughout stairwells and other connecting areas in surface and suspended guises. Brightgreen downlighter products were used throughout the reception and other core zones utilising D550+, D700+ and D900+ recessed downlighters while D550SH and D900SH suspended and surface downlighter cans were used throughout all the wet-room and toilet areas. In contrast the industrial looking RIDI IRL tubular IP rated products were used in the cycle stores.

Finally, all energy control requirements were met by RIDI Groups Control 3 DALI system which controlled and regulated the lighting levels throughout the entire building. Remote or inbuilt sensors saved further energy by harvesting the large amount of natural light washing into the building. The IP based control system can be separated out and managed for individual tenant requirements in the future. All emergency lighting was catered for using the RIDI Group Exida-ACC self-contained puck products throughout all floors.
