Nourish Hub

RIDI Group are proud to have worked with RCKa architects to help deliver this highly worthwhile community project for Hammersmith and Fulham Council. The Nourish Hub is a mixed-use community food hub where learning about cooking and health eating – as a common social activity – connects diverse cultures, teaches meaningful skills and brings local people together. The Hub offers opportunities to those of all backgrounds; from employment in catering to volunteering, skill-sharing and cooking classes. UK Harvest – a not-for-profit charity on a mission to eliminate hunger and food waste through education – will manage the Hub for 3 years, before handing it over to the community.

RCKa Architects required an appropriate lighting scheme that would be flexible, offer some visual interest to the space while providing good value within budget. RIDI group provided a lighting scheme based around the RIDI LINIA system which is a flexible plug and play trunking system offering both complete versatility as well as fast installation. The system was suspended from the ceiling with RIDI VL-LENSES direct/indirect luminaire fixed into the pre-wired system. The indirect light from these luminaires helped bring out the fascinating artwork murals on the ceiling of the former Post Office building. ‘LOOK’ jam jar style luminaires from the groups Li:fy range were also adapted to sit on the LINIA system to provide a more domestic style of fixture. These would be the sole ambient lighting for evening restaurant events as they are independently switched from the main lights.

Other luminaires supplied on the project were the RIDI LF-LED 300 opal squares, Venice linear line products and PFAG IP65 corrosion resistant fittings across the kitchens.

RIDI provided an excellent service by offering tailored advice to develop a lighting specification that suited the needs of the project. The RIDI LINIA system was an ideal cost-effective solution for creating a contemporary lighting design that reflected the design ambition of the Nourish Hub and the differing lighting requirements for cooking lessons and atmospheric dining.
