RIDI Group are proud to have contributed towards the Mission Kitchen project in the heart of New Covent Garden market in South London. RIDI worked together with Architecture00 to design this new co-working/production space for the food industry called The Food Exchange. The facility (delivered in partnership with Covent Garden Market Authority and based within The Food Exchange) is designed for independent food professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators in the industry to give them access to commercial kitchens for their own personal development. The venue is also designed to host events.

The project was supported with grant funding from the Mayor of London through the GLA’s Good Growth Fund and is committed to fulfilling their mission to help more people from all walks of life start and grow successful food businesses. Therefore, it was essential that a lighting scheme could be delivered to a professional standard but at an appropriate price level. In keeping with the brief for sustainable practice and minimal energy impact, RIDI’s LINIA system was seen as the best fit for the backbone of the project.

The LINIA system offers great flexibility for future upgrading and reconfiguration due to the busbar track system incorporated in the LINIA trunking. Utilising a low glare VLG-FS microprismatic luminaire module, the luminaire modules deliver both efficiency and excellent user comfort – essential due to the low mounting height and task work. The system is also rated up to IP54 which is also appropriate for this environment.

The project was controlled by RIDI Group Control 3 system which not only manages the energy consumption but also helps the users adjust the appropriate levels to the tasks being performed. In other areas, RIDI ADLR surface downlighters were fixed to the soffit to deliver a more projected light in the more breakout-oriented spaces. Finally, RIDI PFZO corrosion resistant fittings were used within the more intensive kitchen zones.
