RIDI Group have worked together with MACE MEP and BW Interiors to produce an energy efficient lighting scheme that would be tailored to suit modern working methods. With demands for 24 hour working, healthy well being lighting was a major part of the brief which went alongside the needs for modern breakout spaces and localised video meeting needs. The job had to be serviceable and deliver best value for the government project. It is estimated that such a scheme would save in the order of 70% of the energy consumed by the outgoing lighting.
The core office lighting was a tuneable 1200×300 specially made flat panel design that worked directly was an SAS 150 concealed ceiling grid system. These had an opal prismatic low glare diffuser and are controlled by a DALI lighting control system which caters for both energy savings and the biorhythmic needs of the colour temperature according to the time of the day. The resulting scheme was promoted as giving health benefits to staff in line with Well standards. RIDI EDLR downlighters were also used to create contrast while highlighting areas of the office for different uses.
Elsewhere a balance of domestic style lighting and commercial downlighters were used to create an entirely different feel. The core product used throughout were ADLR downlighter cans supplied in both black and white finishes. These were also linked back to the DALI control system.
To complete the scheme, all emergency needs were catered for using EXIDA recessed and surface mounted self-contained compact units with a mixture of open area and corridor lenses. Finally, VLDF compact linear light units were utilised in individual meeting rooms and sandwiched in between dropped ceilings to create further visual interest.
