Spectral’s H140 Profile system has been used to create this extraordinary light structure at the new John Bradfield Court Pavilion at Darwin College Cambridge. Situated on the banks of River Cam this  new free-standing pavilion has been erected to provide a focal point for College life as a flexible social and meeting space. Its tall, slate pitched roof echoes the old coast house roof of neighbouring Malting House.

Architects Allies and Morrison worked with Spectral Lighting to create a central light structure that would work with and mirror the shape of the building. The demands of the fixture were to provide a good level of lighting to both ground and vertical facades. The main frame of the luminaire utilised the flexible H140 aluminium profile system with a continuous opal light strip following the shape of the fixture An enhanced flange was added to give the product a weightier look in the space. With the space being used for partly for recitals and practice the light structure would also mirror a sort of theatrical lighting rig with the use of 16 rear mounted projector spotlights to light the vertical sides of the lightwell. The result is a voluminous well-lit space that accentuates the form of the building.

The system was also supplied with a Casambi Bluetooth wireless control system that could dim and change scenes via an app-based solution. RIDI Group also provided perimeter downlighters above the windows that were also Cassambi enabled.
