MEDITERRANEAN MARKET HALL, KREFELD

Encompassing a total area of 11,500 square meters, the new Real Market Hall in Krefeld which opened at the end of 2016 is a world away from the conventional stores of the Real supermarket chain. This new market hall is designed with food lovers in mind, offering scope for culinary discovery by browsing a large number of small specialist stalls reminiscent of a traditional market hall.

The lighting emphasizes the individuality and hand-crafted feel of the separate sales stalls. While the market stalls use functional lighting based on spotlight systems, areas such as the serving counters were given a decorative lighting system using individually selected pendants. To optically tone down and break up the enormous length of the main thoroughfares, a classification system was introduced to aid orientation. Here, the RIDI LINIA continuous lighting system was used. The continuous lighting system elements with their LINIA FLAT LED gear trays run at a slight incline both on the vertical and horizontal, creating a deliberate overlap of the light lines. The arrangement of the continuous lighting helps to guide shoppers from the entrance area into the market and through to the individual non-food retail departments.

Using LUPO spotlights integrated into the continuous lighting system, individual locations can be accentuated. A lighting track spotlight system was chosen for the actual product aisles, as this is the optimum method of illuminating the offered merchandise. Floodlights take care of even background lighting, while the accentuating spots from the LUPO range create individual highlighting as required. General lighting for the refrigerated units is provided by VLDF-F linear luminaires arranged in lighting tracks. While all the other areas of the market are illuminated with a colour temperature of 3000 Kelvin, the refrigerated zone can be recognized from far away by its colour temperature of 5000 Kelvin, further simplifying orientation around this vast retail space.

In the cosmetic area, star-shaped lighting tracks are arranged fanning out from the service counters which are fitted with spotlights to illuminate every area of the freely arranged and highly compartmented cosmetics displays. In the fashion area, LUPO and KARO spotlights arranged in lighting tracks provide accentuated lighting as required.
